How to build your very own soda battery.
The first thing you need to do is gather up all the materials. Much of it you will likely already have in your own kitchen. To make a battery, you need three ingredients. Electrodes, Electrolyte and a container to hold it all in. In this experiment, soda is being used for the for the electrolyte. Electrodes are metals that react with the electrolyte to make electricity. Two different types of metal need to be used. Here, copper and zinc are being used. The copper is pipe and the zinc is a galvanized steel rod. The galvanized coating is zinc, so it works well for this. The container is simply a clear plastic cup. All of it together is called a battery cell.
