Safety First:
Before we even get started, a quick word about safety. While this experiment is safe, some common sense precautions should be taken. If working with a group of children or a younger child, I strongly suggest safety goggles. Even though soda splashed in the eye doesn't normally result in a medical emergency, it would cause irritation and discomfort at the very least. Latex examination gloves are also a good idea, as handling metals may put you in contact with small amounts of lead.
